Understand the chartering model
Time chartering, voyage chartering and other arrangements can create different contractual exposures. We consider your role, the vessels and cargoes involved, trading areas and the terms you agree with owners and counterparties. The signed contract and applicable policy wording remain essential.
Identify the exposures to discuss
Damage to hull, cargo-related liabilities, bunkers, pollution-related exposures and defence costs are areas that may need consideration. Their inclusion, exclusions and applicable sublimits must be checked in each quotation. Naming an exposure on this page does not confirm that it is insured.
Compare terms against the contract
The objective is a clear view of the proposed cover and the liabilities retained by the business. Limits, deductibles, contractual exclusions, trading restrictions and notification duties should be considered against the actual employment and obligations assumed under the charterparty.
Keep changes visible
A new cargo, trade, subcharter or contractual amendment may change the information relevant to the insurance discussion. We encourage early communication so that any necessary market enquiries or amendments can be considered before commitments are assumed.
